At the core of Microsoft Fabric’s innovative ecosystem is OneLake, a centralized storage solution designed to streamline and enhance data management. Understanding the importance of seamless data integration, Microsoft consistently introduces new features to ensure that bringing your data into OneLake is smooth and efficient. This time, two exciting new features have been added: On-premise Shortcuts and support for the Iceberg format.

With support for over 170 data store connections, Microsoft Fabric’s Data Factory provides robust capabilities for integrating and managing diverse data sources. To further eliminate data duplication and unnecessary movement, the Shortcut feature has been introduced. This revolutionary capability allows instant access to data stored in various cloud platforms, positioning OneLake as the first multi-cloud data lake.

On-premise Shortcuts (New!!!)

For organizations with data stored on-premise, OneLake offers versatile solutions. If your on-premise data is in an open format, you can now create Shortcuts directly to this data, so now not having data in the cloud is not a problem. This new feature ensures that even non-cloud data can be seamlessly integrated without the need for physical data transfer. In cases where on-premise data is not in an open format, Microsoft Fabric provides a mirroring option. This feature allows you to create a real-time replica with real time updates of your data in OneLake for free. With mirroring, any updates made to your on-premise data are instantly reflected in the cloud, ensuring consistency and up-to-date information across your data ecosystem.

Support for Iceberg format (New!!!)

Continuing its commitment to seamless data integration, Microsoft Fabric has expanded OneLake’s support for open data formats. In addition to the widely used Delta format, OneLake now supports the Iceberg format. This enhancement significantly improves OneLake’s integration with other data platforms, such as Snowflake, allowing for smoother and more efficient data operations.

By continually enhancing its features and expanding support for various data formats, Microsoft Fabric ensures that OneLake remains at the forefront of modern data management solutions. Whether your data resides in the cloud or on-premise, OneLake offers the tools and capabilities to integrate, manage, and analyze your data efficiently, making it a truly comprehensive and future-proof centric data lake solution.
